Tiger sharks are found all over the world
in temperate waters and are classified as near threatened due to overfishing.
They are known to eat almost anything from tires to license plates and now, new research shows that baby
tiger sharks have a bizarre item on their menu: common backyard birds. In a
research project in the Gulf of Mexico, scientists found these birds in the
shark’s stomachs. As these birds migrate south in winter, they rest on the
surface where they are eaten. The tigers remarkably time their arrival to when the birds migrate. It is unknown how the sharks can travel thousands of miles and arrive at the crucial time every year.
